ChatGPT Integration

Want ChatGPT to manage your checklists for you? You can connect Checklista to ChatGPT in a minute using a little internet standard called MCP — think of it as a translator that lets ChatGPT and Checklista talk to each other safely. Don’t panic. You don’t need to know how it works to use it. In ChatGPT, these MCP connections are called apps.

You only need to set this up once, on the ChatGPT website. After that, it works automatically everywhere you use ChatGPT — including the mobile apps. But the initial setup needs to happen on the browser.

Before you can add Checklista, you need to turn on developer mode:

  1. On chatgpt.com, click your profile icon, then click Settings.
  2. Click Apps.
  3. Click Advanced Settings.
  4. Turn on Developer mode.

Now you can add Checklista as an app:

  1. Go back to Settings → Apps, then click Create App.
  2. Fill in the form:
    • Name: Checklista Beta
    • Description and icon are optional — you can leave them blank.
    • Connection: https://api.getchecklista.xyz/mcp
    • Leave the rest of the settings as their defaults.
  3. Check the box I understand and want to continue.
  4. Click Create, then follow the instructions on screen.

The first time you do this, you’ll be sent to Checklista to log in and give ChatGPT permission to access your data. You only have to do this once — from then on, ChatGPT will always have Checklista ready to go.

  1. In a chat, click the + button next to where you type your message.
  2. Make sure that Checklista Beta appears on the list.

That’s it! Now you can just ask ChatGPT to create a checklist, or add items to it, and it’ll take care of the rest. We recommend you use it to brainstorm the initial content of a checklist and to suggest new items to keep you confident that you have things covered.

ChatGPT offers a single permissions setting: Allow low risk actions, which is turned on by default. We recommend leaving it as is — that gives you a smooth experience for everyday actions like creating or viewing checklists, while ChatGPT still checks in with you before anything riskier, like deleting a checklist or an item.

If you’d like to change it, you can find this option under Settings → Apps → Checklista Beta.
